THE ADAMS RIVER IS JUST THE BEGINNING!

In recent years, the salmon have returned to the interior of British Columbia in record numbers that has left even the experts astonished! Over 3 million sockeye salmon may
return to the Adams River this year making it one of the richest runs in the world.
The Adams River orientation walk allows a close-up of this event, critical not only in the lifecycle of the salmon but to the ecological balance of the region. On their journey from
the Pacific Ocean over 300 kilometres downstream, they provide a vital food source for bears, eagles, coyotes, cougars and many other animals. This fall energy supply is
critical for some species in preparing for the cold weather to come. Remains of fish hauled into the bush beside the rivers provide rich fertilizer for plants. Even after their
death after spawning provides further vital nutrients to the ecosystem.
Our adventure begins from Kelowna through the lesser traveled roads of the Thompson Plateau where the autumn colours are approaching their peak. The hillsides are radiant in
yellow, orange and red splendor. The cattle are growing thick coats, the alfalfa fields have had their last cut and the air is fresh with crisp fall aromas. We'll visit the Adams River
self guided salmon orientation walk along the river. Fishery experts have prepared this information to give a complete story of the salmon's lifecycle.
Once you know more about these fascinating animals, our off-pavement equipped Ford Excursion will then take you deeper into Adams Lake backcountry where few visitors
to the Adams River run venture. We'll search for the few surviving salmon that make their way beyond the tourists of the Adams River. We'll have lunch by a campfire
before traveling deeper into the mountains of the Niskonlith Forest. We'll travel through an area with ghost silver and gold mines. Expert interpretation of the geology,
minerals and landscape is provided in plain terms that will leave you with a fresh understanding our province's landforms.
Then...how's your sense of adventure!! Depending on time, weather and group spirit, we return to Kelowna via a number of backroad options that offer an
unparalleled travel experience. The aspens are turning a golden hue and the Western Maples show their rich red against the crisp white trunks of the spruce and birch trees.
And the wildlife is at their prime in preparation for winter.
