Press Release
22 August 2002

Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada - "Very good! Yah! Very good!" Michael gazed off to the east to the silhouette of the Monashee Mountains and the carpet of forest below. A successful agriculturist from Germany, Michael spoke few words of English. But the landscape and scenery were all we needed when Michael's local representative hired us on our first exclusive solo day tour.

Not knowing the country outside of the valley, Michael was interested in seeing the mountains and the wild forests beyond the hills. Our day was spent touring the lakes, mountains and forests of the Okanagan Highlands near Big White, Little White and Beaverdell. We passed fishing lakes and lily ponds, campers enjoying their summer holidays and kilometres upon kilometres where no one could be found that is such a rarity in Michael's homeland. But the view from our short hike to the top of Goat Mountain elicited his most telling comments. Such views of non-cultured forests, clear air and vast mountain landscapes on all sides are a treasure British Columbians take for granted. But not one Micheal takes lightly.

Terri and Stephani came along on a scouting trip deep into the Tulameen River platinum region. Our route to the area passed a number of lakes and rivers of the Pennask Plateau. The Tulameen Valley itself provided birds and landscape that filled rolls of film. Logging in the last 5 years has extended the road network high into the Cascade Mountains to a summit at sub alpine Jacobsen Lake. The rich forests and wildlife gave our guests a trip to remember and GeoQwest a promise of a booking next year!

GeoQwest continues to generate interest throughout the province. We are looking forward to our new membership in the Thompson Okanagan Tourist Association. GeoQwest has been introduced to a number of principles in the organization over the past few months through our activities with the Adventure Okanagan Cooperative and our involvement with the Society of American Travel Writers Conference. T.O.T.A will be a great alliance in our efforts to spread the word of our unique service to the international market that is such a critical part of our venture.

In recent days, The Globetrotter Club as well as a number of Travel and Adventure Clubs in the UK were contacted with information about GeoQwest. The Globetrotters are not only interested in linking to our website but have asked for more information both about the company and also of British Columbia. This group of international travelers has a truly international perspective on tourism. The information we will pass along will hopefully put British Columbia higher on their radar screen. And of course, we all know who can show them our province…naturally!

Two new multiday trips through the Kootenays have been added to our list of tours. Both cover similar ground through the Kootenay with some interesting differences. Our 5 Day Kootenay Heritage Tour includes all the aspects of the proud history of this part of our province. Mining was the cornerstone of the Kootenays and this tour covers the full history. We visit discovery sites, abandoned major producing mine, an underground mine tour, railways that were so important in transporting ore and materials, the Trail smelter that turns the ore to metal and the hydro plants that creates the power to run the smelter and light our homes. The second is a 4 day tour that is a shortened version of the 5 day but with a detour into a remote glacier capped valley in the Purcell Range. Both trips travel off pavement as much as possible to take in BC's spectacular natural landscapes.

Full information of these and the rest of our tours is described at www.geoqwestexcursions.com.

Happy travels,
