Steve left the industry in 2000 to create a company specialising in public education of the mining industry with BC Mining heritage tours into the provinces historic and current mining districts. The company found success in tours sold internationally through Air Canada's Aeroplan program, The Globe and Mail's Recognition program and international travel agents.

With the demand in the mineral industry for experienced explorationists, Steve returned to geology in 2006 supervising construction of a 50 man camp and subsequent 30,000 foot drill program in northern BC. Other work has included projects for Barrick Gold Corp in Alaska, Falconbridge/Noranda/Xstrata Copper and junior companies operating in the Sierra Madre mountains of northern Mexico.
